EAGLES STAY IN STATE FOR TWO DUALS: Head Coach Ryan Ray's Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team will stay in the state of Michigan for two dual meets this week.
The Eagles are slated to take on the University of Detroit Friday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. and will then move on to East Lansing for a Sunday, Jan. 29, noon dual against the Michigan State University Spartans.
EMU will enter this weekend's matches with a 2-2 record after splitting duals last weekend. The Eagles handed the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay a 7-0 shutout Friday, Jan. 20, and then dropped a 6-1 decision to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Both duals were played indoors at the Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison.
Sophomore Nino Mebuke (Tbilisi, Georgia), No. 2 singles player, was the lone Eagle to go 2-0 in singles play in Wisconsin. She defeated UWGB's Morgan Weuve, 6-0, 6-1, and came back on the second day of the trip to upend Wisconsin's Sarah Loebel, 6-3, 6-4.

MEBUKE/WESTERINK NATIONALLY RANKED: The No. 1 EMU doubles team of sophomore Nino Mebuke (Tbilisi, Georgia) and senior Miriam Westerink (Rheden, The Netherlands-Thomas A Kempis) is ranked 57th nationally and 7th in the Midwest Region in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division I rankings released in the first week of January.
Through the first four dual matches of the 2011-12 season, Mebuke and Westerink have a 7-6 record while playing some of the top competition in Division I. That EMU doubles team finished runnerup at the Muirfield Village Clay Court Invitational, Sept. 16-18, and also went 1-1 in the ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying Meet held Oct. 1-2 at UCLA.
