Eagles now 2-2 after setback to the Badgers
MADISON, Wisc. (EMUEagles.com) — Head Coach Ryan Ray's Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 dual-meet matchup to the University of Wisconsin Badgers here in a dual match Saturday, Jan. 21, indoors in the Nielsen Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin. The Eagles, now 2-2 on the season.
“Overall our effort was good,” Ray said of his team's play against the Badgers. “ We didn't get a strong performance overall in doubles, which put us in a hole to start. We didn't convert on a lot of close sets, and I credit Wisconsin for that. A little better performance could have given us a win, it just wasn't there today.”
Sophomore Nino Mebuke (Tbilisi, Georgia-English/Spanish School) gained the lone EMU win, a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Wisconsin's Sarah Loebel at No. 2 singles. EMU freshman Daphne Friedrichs (Hufingen, Germany-Elisa Brandstrom Schule) split sets with Wisconsin's Caroline Bauer at No. 6 singles before losing 10-5 in the tie-breaker.
