EMU HOSTS TOLEDO IN SECOND STRAIGHT HOME GAME: The 2011-12 Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will be home for the second game in a row as the Eagles prepare to host the University of Toledo Rockets Saturday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
First-year Head Coach Rob Murphy's Eagles enter the game with an 8-10 overall record and a 3-1 Mid-American mark, good a a tie for the lead in the MAC West Division, after posting a thrilling 62-59 overtime win over a visiting Western Michigan team, Jan. 18.
Toledo also recorded a Wednesday win, beating a visiting Northern Illinois squad by a 71-41 count at home.

FIRST 3-1 SINCE 1999-00: It has been 11 years between 3-1 Mid-American starts for the EMU men's basketball team. This year's Eagles have jumped out to a 3-1 start to the Mid-American Conference season to share the West Division lead with Ball State. The last time the Eagles were 3-1 to begin a league campaign was 1999-00.  That '99-'00 squad won its first two games at home, over Ohio and Buffalo, before winning at Ball State and then dropping its fourth game, at home against Kent State.

THRILLER IN OT:  EMU came up with a thrilling, 62-59, overtime win at home Wednesday, Jan. 18, over Western Michigan University.  That overtime win was the first extra-session game for the Eagles since a 68-65 loss to Detroit, Dec. 11, 2010, at home in the Convocation Center.  That last overtime win for the Eagles was a 55-53 victory at Ball State, March 8, 2009.

GREEN ON THE LATE-GAME TRIPLE:  The win over Western Michigan, Jan. 18, was the second straight game that EMU senior guard Antonio Green (Inkster, Mich.-Dearborn Heights Robichaud) hit a three-point shot in the last few seconds.  At Ball State the triple with 1.5 seconds left gave EMU a 51-48 win in regulation.  Green came up with another big three pointer against WMU, this time with just 4.9 seconds left, to give EMU what looked like a 53-50 EMU win. WMU's Nate Hutcheson would match Green's triple with one of his own at the buzzer to tie the game at 53-all, forcing an overtime session.  Green was up to the game-winning task in the extra session also as he made two clutch free throws with 17 seconds left to give the Eagles a 62-58 lead. EMU would go on to record a 62-59 win.

TOUGH ON THE ROAD:  The Eagles have endured a long road schedule this year, playing 11 of their 18 games away from the Convocation Center.  Despite that disparity between home and away, the Green and White has a 4-7 road record, including capturing two of its Mid-American Conference wins away from Ypsilanti.  EMU opened the 2012 MAC season with a 47-40 win at Northern Illinois, Jan. 7, and followed that up with a 51-48 last-second thriller at Ball State, Jan. 14.

HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY:  Wednesday, Jan. 18, was an extra-special 21st birthday for EMU guard Austin Harper (Grand Haven, Mich.-Grand Haven-Glen Oaks C.C.).  Harper started his fourth game of the year against Western Michigan, Jan. 18, and he responded with three points and seven assists in EMU 62-59 overtime win.  The win was also special for Harper as he began his intercollegiate career at Western Michigan in 2009-10. He redshirted that season and transferred to Glen Oaks C.C. for a year before joining the EMU program for the 2011-12 campaign.

MOVING PAST 400: Senior guard Darrell Lampley (Linden, N.J.-Linden-Lakeland (Ohio) C.C.) has scored 432 points in his 49-game EMU career and has turned in 1512assists and connected on 50 three-point field goals.

MOVING UP IN THE MAC STATS PICTURE:  As a team, the Eagles are in the top half of the Mid-American Conference in five categories heading into the Toledo game Saturday, Jan. 21.  Eastern is second in scoring defense (60.1), third in field-goal percent defense (41.2), fourth in free throw percentage (69.7) and third in three-point shooting percentage defense (41.5). Individually, senior point guard Darrell Lampley (Linden, N.J.-Linden-Lakeland (Ohio) C.C.) is ninth in scoring (13.2) and second in free throw percentage (.877) and junior forward Jamell Harris (Euclid, Ohio-Euclid) is third in blocked shots (1.6).
