Eagles Make it Four Straight With Win Over Marshall

EMU is riding a four match winning streak after taking down the Herd 3-0

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan women's volleyball team rode a .483 attack percentage by junior, Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child), to a 3-0 win in their first match of the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational. The Eagles squared off with the Thundering Herd of Marshall and were able to take them in straight sets (25-21, 25-21, 25-19). Eastern is now on a four match winning streak with the win.
The Green and White improved to 4-1 after their win over Marshall. The Thundering Herd fell to 0-3 on their 2011 campaign.
Iaquaniello led the Eagles offensively with 15 kills and a .483 attack percentage (15-1-29), along with a pair of aces and three assists. Kristen Baker (Mentor, Ohio-Mentor) and Erin Short (Orrville, Ohio-Orrville) helped the offense with eight and five kills, respectively. Baker and Short chipped-in defensively with a pair of block assists each. Paige Roback (Maumee, Ohio-Notre Dame Academy) was able to deliver six kills and a .308 attack percentage (6-2-13) for the Eagles. The Green and White had a season-high .314 attack percentage (41-9-102). Ashley Mason (Eastlake, Ohio-Lake Catholic) setup the offense for EMU with a match-high 33 assists.
Eastern opened up the match with a 25-21 win in the first frame. Iaquaniello had four kills in the opening set, while Mason and Short each had a pair of kills. Short was also able to serve up an ace in the opening frame, helping the Eagles to a 1-0 lead.
Baker and Iaquaniello paced the EMU offense in the second set with four kills each. Iaquaniello was 4-of-5 in her attacks for the set. Mason had 11 assists in the second set, leading Eastern to a two-set lead.
Roback and Iaquaniello led the way offensively in the final set of the match. Roback had five kills in the frame, while Iaquaniello had seven of her own. Roback was 5-of-6 in attack attempts in the final set, while Mason was able to pick up 15 assists helping lock-up the Eagles fourth victory of the 2011 season.
The Green and White are in action again on Saturday, Sept. 3, when they take on the Hatters of Stetson University at 4:30 p.m. The Eagles have never squared off with the Hatters. Stetson has yet to play their first match of the season as they open their 2011 campaign with the IUPUI Jaguars at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 3.
