EMU returns home Friday to finish non-conference season

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (EMUEagles.com)— The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team concluded its six-game road trip Sunday afternoon, Sept. 11, with a 2-0 setback at Western Kentucky University. Following a close first half of action, the Hilltoppers took control in the final 45 minutes with a pair of goals.
Western Kentucky struck for goals in the 57th and 78th minutes on a pair of tallies from Mallory Outerbridge.
The Eagles have now lost five straight matches to fall to 0-5-1 on the season, while Western Kentucky improves to 5-2-0.
The Green and White was outshot, 16-12, with Angela Vultaggio recording a team-high three shots, two on goal. Maggie Manville made eight saves in net for EMU.
A tightly contested first half resulted in little offense as the two teams combined for just five shots on goal. Chelsea Detrick and Vultaggio each registered a shot on WKU goalkeeper Libby Stout, who made three saves in the match.
In the second half, the Hilltoppers broke the tie on a header from Outerbridge. WKU remained on the attack for a good portion of the period and put the game out of reach when Outerbridge notched her sixth of the season with 12 minutes to play.
The Eagles now return home for their final non-conference match of the season Friday, Sept. 16, at Scicluna Field. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
