Eagles hit the field for its second two-a-day of the fall

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University football team hit the practice field twice Monday, Aug. 15, for its second two-a-day of the 2011 campaign. Following the afternoon session Head Coach Ron English chatted with Eagle All-Access' Greg Steiner with an update on the team's progress following the 10th practice of the fall.

"The receivers are really playing well," English told Steiner. "We have some numbers there. I really like the freshmen; they're good players. Just playing so much faster, the receivers, with a lot more confidence, and they know what they're doing."

English singled out former high school teammates Darius Scott and Demarius Reed, both from Chicago's Simeon Academy, as freshmen who have already impressed him.

Freshmen tight ends Dylan Brooks and Tyreese Russell  also stand out to English.

"They're getting better every single day," English said. "And they're going to be big kids, they really are."

English has mixed some two-a-days into his practices and he expects to have a few more this week, and he likes that they are a challenge to his players.

"I do think there is still some merit to two-a-days," English said. "Because it's hard to come out here the second practice. Their bodies are sore. And their minds are sore, if you will."

EMUEagles.com will continue to bring updated reports from camp which will include photo galleries, articles and video/audio interviews from coaches and players.

As a reminder, Eagle fans can get a chance to meet the team Saturday, Aug. 20, at Media Day from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. inside Rynearson Stadium. Fans will have a chance to get autographs and take photographs, as the squad sits down for its annual team photo shoot.

The 2011 season will be the 120th for the EMU football team. The first year of intercollegiate football in Ypsilanti was 1891 when the team posted an 0-2 record. EMU has fielded a team every year since 1891 with one exception, when the 1944 season was canceled because of World War II.

EMU kicks off the 2011 football season against Howard University Saturday, Sept. 3, at Rynearson Stadium. Football season tickets are on sale now for as low as $48, and can be purchased by calling the EMU Ticket Office at 734.487.2282.
