Robert Wendzicki Signs Contract With Lake Erie Crushers

Former EMU left-hander is second Eagle to sign a professional contract.
AVON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Recent Eastern Michigan University graduate and left-handed starting pitcher/first baseman, Robert Wendzicki (Brook Park, Ohio-Midpark), has signed a professional contract with the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League.
Wendzicki is coming off a career year, where he posted a 6-6 record with a 3.38 ERA as EMU's ace in 2011. The Brook Park, Ohio native struck out a team-high 76 batters while walking just 22 over 106.2 innings pitched, the fifth-most innings pitched for a single season in school history. He also saw some action at first base, hitting .248 for the season with a pair of home runs, 18 runs scored and 20 runs driven in.
In Wendzicki's final nine starts on the mound, he pitched six and two-thirds innings or more eight times. He posted a complete game victory on the road against Western Michigan (April 23) where he allowed just two runs on four hits while striking out six en route to MAC West Pitcher of the Week honors.
In his final two starts, both taking place at the MAC Tournament, Wendzicki nearly led the Eagles to the championship game. In the tournament opener, he went eight and two-thirds innings and allowed two runs while striking out seven as EMU defeated Northern Illinois, 4-2. In the tournament semifinal against Kent State, Wendzicki stifled the opposition for six and two-thirds innings before running out of gas.
He was 1-1 in the tournament with a 2.98 ERA, striking out 12 batters over 15.1 innings and over 220 pitches in four days. Wendzicki was named to the MAC All-Tournament team for his accomplishments.
He now joins a Lake Erie squad that is 11-19 overall and just six games back of East Division leader Windy City in the Frontier League standings.
