Six Eagles receive honorable mention
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)- The Mid-American Conference released its 2011 Academic All-MAC Women's Gymnastics team today, May 10, and Eastern Michigan University senior gymnast Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Carmel) was named to the team for the first time in her career.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport.
Viltz, a 3.23 GPA management major, was named the Mid-American Conference Gymnast of the Week, for the period ending Feb. 21. Viltz competed in all ten meets for the Eagles where she recorded 11 first place finishes, and ranks among the top ten gymnasts on the vault of all time in the EMU record books.
Fellow seniors Grace Crouch (Bellbrook, Ohio-Bellbrook) and Jessica Perdoch (Reading, Pa.-Exeter Township) received honorable mention Academic All-MAC for the 2011 season along with juniors Sabrina Thomas (Roswell, Ga.-Eaton Academy) and Kristen Yourick (Albuquerque, N.M.-La Cueva) , and sophomores Camille Cicchini (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.-Royal Palm Beach Community) and Kristina Kurkmilis (Eagleville, Pa.-Methacton).
