CBI Names Zack Leonard Central Region Player of the Week

College Baseball Insider honored Leonard with his third weekly award in the past five days.
RICHMOND, Va. (EMUEagles.com) – Senior second baseman Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley) has added another award to his recent list of accolades as College Baseball Insider named him Central Region Player of the Week, today, May 4.
Leonard, already the reigning Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete and Player of the Week award winner, was honored for his achievements for the week ending May 1, when the Eagles posted a 4-0 record including a road win at Michigan State and a home series sweep against Ball State.
The Canton, Ohio native batted .667 (12-for-18) with four doubles, a home run and 12 RBI. He went 5-for-5 with two walks in EMU's come-from-behind, 17-15, 12-inning victory against Michigan State and set a school-record with 14 assists in the field without a committing a single error.
In the Eagles' 18-5 win over Ball State on May 1, Leonard recorded his 60th career double, another school-record. He now holds three career records at EMU after setting the career at-bats record earlier this season and more recently the hits record, which he continues to add to with 291 entering Wednesday's matinee against Louisville.
Leonard is currently batting .368 with team-highs in runs (43) and doubles (16), while the team as a whole is off to its best record through the first 44 games since 1976 as they improved to 29-15 after a 4-3 victory over Louisville, Tuesday, May 3.
