Eagles Home Win Streak Snapped with 7-0 Loss to Akron

EMU unable to score against top team in the MAC
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team was unable to maintain its home undefeated streak on the season, falling 7-0 to the No. 74 University of Akron team, Friday afternoon, April 8, at the Chippewa Racquet Club in Ypsilanti, Mich.
With the win, EMU evens to 9-9 overall (2-2, Mid-American Conference), while Akron advances to 14-3 (4-0, MAC).

The Eagles never mounted much of a threat against the top squad in the MAC), as Eastern was unable to steal a set from the Zips all match.
In the No. 5 singles spot, Marcela Rivero was able to string together points, extending the first set before falling 7-5. In the second set she also competed well, but again came up short in a 6-4 loss.

In doubles, Miriam Westerink and Nino Mebuke paired against the No. 45 duo in the nation falling on the wrong end of an 8-6 decision. Mebuke was forced to retire early in her singles match.
"We didn't put forth the effort or performance necessary to beat a good team like Akron," said EMU Head Coach Ryan Ray. "As a whole it's disappointing. We had some chances in first sets and didn't get the job done. We need to regroup and give our best against a good Buffalo team tomorrow."
The Eagles match against the University at Buffalo will also take place at 1 p.m. at the Chippewa Racquet Club.
