Senior defensive back to represent Eagles in Indianapolis

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University redshirt junior defensive back Marcell Rose (Orlando, Fla.-Cypress Creek) has been selected to attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum in Indianapolis, Ind. from June 12-15. In this year's process, the NCAA had more than 1,100 nominations and 850 completed applications. Upon review by the selection committee, 303 student-athletes were chosen to participate in 10 sport-specific coaching tracks and one administration track.

Rose, a 5-foot-9, 188-pounder, has earned two letters for the Eagles after redshirting as a freshman in 2008. He started all 12 games at a defensive cornerback position in 2010 and finished fourth on the team in total tackles with 56. He also had six pass deflections, one interception for 27 yards, and recovered two fumbles.

The NCAA Career in Sports Forum is a four-day event through which selected student-athletes will explore and be educated on careers in sports, with a primary focus on intercollegiate athletics. This Forum will be provided to participants at no cost. The NCAA will cover airfare, lodging and meals during the Forum. Through the use of dual tracks, participants will examine the key functions of a coach or administrator within sports. Foundational skills such as communication, networking, recruiting, managing culture, transitioning and budgeting will be covered with participants.

The coaching track will be conducted in a rotation of NCAA sponsored sports, with the 2011 Forum open to student-athletes (SA) who have interest in coaching the sports of: cross country/track and field, basketball, field hockey, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, and volleyball. The administrator track will cover the internal and external operations of an intercollegiate athletics department, which includes, but not limited to: academics, communications, compliance, development, event management, marketing, etc.
