Elcock, Hemingway, Quaintance unable to hit automatic qualifier marks
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) - Three Eastern Michigan University women's tracksters competed this past weekend at the Alex Wilson Invitational as hosted by the University of Notre Dame. The meet acted as a "last chance" for runners in the region to qualify for the upcoming national championship.
Beverly Elcock and Lauren Quaintance, who, respectively, own the top two times in the Mid-American Conference in the event this year, each ran in the 800-meter run looking to improve on their already impressive times. Neither of the athletes hit qualifying marks, but Elcock was able to run an impressive 2:07.54, good for an eighth-place finish. Quaintance suffered a setback during the race and with a time of 2:14.45.
Senior pole vaulter Jessica Hemingway, who currently holds the 22nd-best mark in the nation, was also looking to get an automatic bid to nationals, but came up short as she finished second in the event with a height of 13-03.75.
The Eagles now look forward to repeating their successes of the outdoor season and capturing the outdoor crown for a season sweep of the conference's top spot.
