Relay Team Wins 1,600-Sprint Medley at Raleigh Relays

Eagles post solid Day One of outdoor season-opener

RALEIGH, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team, coming off its first Mid-American Conference Title since 2000, opened the 2011 outdoor season Friday evening, March 25, in Raleigh, N.C., as several Eagles posted top-five finishes on Day One of the competition.
In the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay, the quartet of Ashlee Abraham, Naomi Andre, Asia Rawls and Beverly Elcock was able to take first place with a time of 3:54.33. Four of their teammates, Rosie White, Ashley Wartley, Shantavia Williams and Lauren Quaintance, would cross the line just four seconds later en route to a third-place finish.
Rawls was also successful in her solo race, placing fifth overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.45. Dejaa Shearer also ran in that event, placing 15th with a time of 1:02.88.
Kate Wolanin had one of her best collegiate finishes, placing third in the high jump, clearing a height of 5-05. The height was the same as the overall winner of the event, but it took Wolanin more tries to clear the mark.
Angela Scarber did well in the field for the Eagles as she placed seventh in the shot put with a toss of 42-04, while Rachel Quaintance was sixth in the 5,000 meter run, crossing the finish line with a time of 17:38.39.
EMU will resume competition in Raleigh on Saturday, March 26.
