SOUTH BEND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – Another weekend of competition has passed and Eastern Michigan University women's track and field sprinter Ashley Abraham has set a new personal-best in the 60-meter dash, winning the event at the University of Notre Dame's famed Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., Saturday, Feb. 5. The event concluded the two-day invitational, as the Eagle's also performed well on day one.
After coming in third-place during the preliminary round Friday, Abraham took first-place overall in the event Saturday by posting a personal-best time of 7.40, barely edging out Illinois' Tamika Robinson and her time of 7.41.
Shantavia Williams also set a new Mid-American Conference standard in the unseeded 400-meter run with a time of 54.89 as she finished second in the run. Asia Rawls also did well, placing 10th overall.
The 800-meter dash was also dominated by Eastern Michigan, with Lauren Quaintance posting the best time in the MAC in the event with a time of 2:09.24 in the seeded portion of the event, while Beverly Elcock won the unseeded run with a time of 2:10.42. Quaintance took fifth-place.
In the seeded 200-meter dash, Naomi Andre and Rosie White finished fourth and fifth, with times of 24.44 and 24.52, in that order. In the unseeded 200, Ashley Wartley finished ninth among nearly 60 runners with a time of 25.32.
Jessica Hemmingway finished in seventh-place in the pole vault as the senior cleared a height of 12-01.50. Also in the field, White had her best long jump of the season, 18-08.00, and placed 14th out of nearly 60 leapers.
