Chaffins Earns MAC West Pitcher of the Week Honors

Senior Corey Chaffins picked up his fifth career MAC West Pitcher of the Week award
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Senior right-handed pitcher Corey Chaffins (New London, Ohio-New London) was named Mid-American Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced today, Feb. 22. It's the fifth such honor for Chaffins in his career.
The New London, Ohio native made back-to-back appearances against fourth-ranked Clemson over the weekend, posting a 1-0 record and a 2.08 ERA as the Eagles took one of the three games in the series.
In his second appearance in his many days, Chaffins pitched the final 3.1 innings in relief to record the win as the Eagles went on to defeat the nationally-ranked Tigers, 7-6, on the road.
Chaffins tallied five strikeouts on the weekend in 4.1 innings pitched, all in relief. The win over Clemson marks the second straight season that EMU has defeated a ranked opponent in its opening series of the year.
Last season, the Eagles beat No. 25 Kansas in the season opener Feb. 22, a game in which Chaffins started and recorded the win.
