EMU BACK TO WEST DIVISION ACTION AT CMU: The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team returns to Mid-American Conference West Division action with a Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, game at Central Michigan University. The game is part of the MAC-SportsTime Ohio television package and will be shown live on STO with a 7:37 p.m. tip. Michael Reghi will handle the play-by-play duties and Steve Mix is the game analyst.

EMU VS. CMU: Central Michigan leads the series, 93-87. Eastern won this year's earlier meeting. 41-38, Jan. 23, at home in the Convocation Center.

SWEET 16 HONORED: One of the most successful teams in Eastern Michigan University men's basketball history was honored at the EMU-University at Buffalo men's game Saturday, Feb. 12, in the Convocation Center.
The 1990-91 men's team that advanced all the way to the “Sweet 16” round of the NCAA National Tournament along with coaches and staff were special guests of the athletics department at that game. That team, led by Head Coach Ben Braun, won the Mid-American Conference title and also added the MAC Tournament championship, advancing to the NCAA “Sweet 16.”

RETURN OF THE “SWEET 16” TEAM: Many of the players from Eastern Michigan University 1990-91 NCAA “Sweet 16” team were in attendance at the EMU-Buffalo game Saturday, Feb. 9, as special guests of the University. That 1990-91 team won the Mid-American Conference Championship as well as the Mid-American Conference Tournament title on the way to qualifying for the NCAA Championship. That team then advanced to the “Sweet 16” round in the NCAA's before falling to a No. 1 seed University of North Carolina, 93-67, at the Meadowlands, in New Jersey. The coaches that were in attendence included current EMU Head Coach Charles E. Ramsey, who was a volunteer assistant on that 1990-91, current EMU Assistant Coach Carl Thomas who was a player on that squad and Brian Miller, an assistant coach in 1990-91. Players that returned were Kahlil Felder, Joe Frasor, Lawrence Hill, Tony King, Roger Lewis, Von Nickleberry, and Pete Pangas.

HELP FROM THE BENCH: The Eagles received plenty of fire-power from the bench in their last two games. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Kent State five players came off the pine to score 26 points and grab 18 rebounds against the Golden Flashes. In the Buffalo contest, Feb. 12, the Eagles played seven off the bench and that group accounted for 28 points and eight rebounds to help the Eagles post a 78-65 victory.

JACKSONVILLE STATE TO FACE EAGLES IN ESPN BRACKETBUSTER MATCHUP: The Jacksonville State University Gamecocks will be EMU's 2011 ESPN Bracketbuster matchup Saturday, Feb. 19, in the Convocation Center. The Gamecocks, from Jacksonville, Ala., are currently 4-18 overall and 2-9 in Ohio Valley Conference play. As part of the BracketBuster format, the Eagles will play a single game at Jacksonville State in the 2011-12 season.

TWO EAST WINS: The Eagles managed to close out their six-game swing against Mid-American Conference East Division teams with a 2-4 record and it was close to being 3-3. The Eagles beat Akron, 60-56, Feb. 2, and Buffalo, 78-65, Feb. 12. The Eagles had losses to East foes Ohio, 79-65, Jan. 26, Bowling Green, 68-63, Jan. 29, Miami, 58-56, Feb. 5, and Kent State, 80-70, Feb. 9. The EMU schedule is set up annually for the first five games to be played against West Division teams, the next six against East Division foes, and the final five back in the West.

BOWDRY EARNS THIRD MAC WEEKLY AWARD OF THE SEASON: Eastern Michigan University senior forward Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) has been named the Mid-American Conference men's basketball West Division Player of the Week for Feb. 7, 2011. The honor is Bowdry's third this season and the eighth weekly award in his outstanding four-year EMU career. He earned the award after turning in the 34th and 35th double-doubles of his career in two games played last week.
Wednesday, Feb. 2, at home against Akron, Bowdry scored 25 points with 12 rebounds to lead the Eagles to a 60-56 win. He connected on 9-of-15 field-goal attempts, 1-of-3 three-point shots and 6-of-7 free throws in the victory.
Saturday, Feb. 5, Bowdry scored 19 points with 11 rebounds, hitting 5-of-13 field-goal attempts and 8-of-11 free throws in a heartbreaking 58-56 loss to Miami at home in the Convocation Center.
