Nationally-ranked Huskers too much for Eagles
LINCOLN, Neb. (EMUEagles.com) - A competitive showing by the Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team could not change the outcome of the match, as the Eagles fell, 7-0, to the No. 32-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln, Neb., Saturday, Feb. 12.
Marcela Rivero, playing in the No. 5 singles position, played perhaps the best match for the visiting Eagles, as she forced the match to three sets before being downed, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6. Xu Chang also put together a tough pair of sets at the No. 3 singles position. The senior grinded out the match, forcing the second set to extra points, before ultimately being upended 6-3, 7-6 (3).
"We got beat by a strong and very deep Nebraska team,' said EMU head coach Ryan Ray. "We did a little better at competing until the last ball of each match. We look forward to a real battle with Northern Iowa in the morning."
As Ray alluded to, EMU will stay in the state of Nebraska to face Northern Iowa on Sunday, Feb. 13, before returning to Ypsilanti, Mich.
