ALLENDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eight Eagles recorded top-10 finishes on the first day of the Grand Valley State University Big Meet, as the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team competed at the Michigan classic, Friday, Feb. 11, in Allendale, Mich.
Beverly Elcock set a new standard for the Mid-American Conference in the 800-meter run, finishing the event in a time of 2:06.86. The time was a top-15 time in the nation this year and is also the fastest time in the conference in three years. With her time, Elcock also ran the second-fastest time in school history.
Lauren Quaintance ran a career-best time in the mile-run also, posting a sixth-place finish with a mark of 4:52.77. It was the second-fastest time in the MAC this year.
In the 200-meter dash, sprinter Ashlee Abraham finished second overall with a time of 24.37 while her teammate Shantavia Williams finished a half-second later, placing ninth with a time of 24.87.
Rosie White had her first 19-plus-foot long jump of the season, with a third-place finish in the event. Senior transfer Tiffani Long also fared well with a 10th-place jump.
The two other top-10 finishers were Shnell Wishart in the triple jump and Jessica Hemingway in the pole vault.
The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 12, as the team competes in the second day of the event.
