Tennis Turns in 7-0 Win Over Creighton in Nebraska

This marks the fifth shutout win of the season for the women

OMAHA, Neb. (EMUEagles.com) -- For the fifth time this season, the Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team blanked its opponent, earning a 7-0 victory, this time over over Creighton University, on Friday, Feb. 11, in the first of three matches the Eagles will play in Nebreaska this weekend.

EMU posted a near-perfect day, dropping only the No. 2 doubles match, 8-4, to the Creighton duo of Kelsey Schmidt and Mary McMullen. Mariya Toncheva would avenge her doubles loss in singles play, as she rebounded for a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 4 spot.

Nino Mebuke and Xu Chang each served up a bagel and a breadstick at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions, respectively, as each player won her match 6-0, 6-1.

None of the Eagles were forced into a decisive third set in their singles play, and the team was able to close out the day having earned the doubles point and all six singles points as well.

"Our focus and energy was good in singles today," said EMU head coach Ryan Ray. "We played smart, cut down on our errors, and kept an aggressive mentality. We need more consistency in this area and we hope to show it again against a strong Nebraska team tomorrow."

As Ray said, the Eagles won't have a long time away from the courts, facing a very skilled Nebraksa team on Saturday, Feb. 12, in Lincoln, Neb.
