FOR THE 115th TIME:  The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will kick off its 115th season of competition Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, when the Eagles host the Flames of the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) in a 7 p.m. game in the Convocation Center. Eastern played its first season in 1897-98 and split games with Detroit, losing a 2-0 decision before coming back for a 4-0 victory.

38th MAC SEASON:  The 2011-12 season will also be the 38th for the Eagles in the Mid-American Conference. The first year of MAC play for EMU was  1974-75 when the then-Hurons went 12-14 overall and 4-9 in league play.
EMU has won three Mid-American Conference titles: 1987-88, 1990-91, and 1995-96, and the Green and White captured MAC Tournament crowns in all three of those years in addition to winning the tournament title in 1997-98.

EXHIBITION PERFECT:  The 2011-12 Eagles were perfect in their two exhibition games. The Eagles defeated Earlham, 81-55, and Marygrove, 85-51, to prepare for the season.

CHECKING THE SERIES:  EMU and UIC have met three times in the series with Eastern winning all three contests.  The first meeting was Dec. 12, 1981, in EMU's Bowen Field House and the home team posted a 73-55 win. The two squads met the next season, Dec. 21, 1983, in Chicago, Ill. and the then-Hurons made it two in a row with a 72-68 win. The last meeting was in the San Juan Shootout in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dec. 20, 1992, and Eastern won, 89-81.

FAMILIAR FACES:  When the UIC Flames head to the Convocation Center for Friday's, Nov. 11 non-conference game, there will be two familiar faces on the visitor's bench.  UIC Athletics Media Relations Director Brett McWethy is a 2003 Eastern Michigan University graduate and a former graduate assistant in the Athletic Media Relations Office.  UIC Head Coach Howard Moore also played against EMU as a member of the University of Wisconsin men's basketball team that dropped a 92-76 decision to the then-Hurons in Bowen Field House.  Moore did not score in that contest in seven minutes of action.

PLENTY OF ACTION IN TWO EXHIBITION WINS:  First-year EMU Head Coach Rob Murphy had a chance to see all of his team in game action when the Eagles played two exhibition games. The Eagles played 10 players in  an 81-55 win over Earlham College, Oct. 30, and 11 Eagles saw action in an 85-51 win over Marygrove College, Nov. 7. The Eagles had four players score in double figures in each exhibition with senior Antonio Green leading the way with 17 against Earlham and Matt Balkema and J.R. Sims each scoring 15 against Marygrove.

HARPER SEES FIRST ACTION:  Junior college transfer Austin Harper (Grand Haven, Mich.-Grand Haven-Glen Oaks C.C.) saw his first action for the Eagles in Sunday's, Oct. 30, exhibition against Earlham College and responded with 15 points and two assists in 21 minutes of action at point guard.  Harper started his collegiate career at Western Michigan where he was redshirted as a freshman.  He then transferred to Glen Oaks C.C. where he enjoyed two strong seasons before deciding to move on to EMU.

EAGLES SET FOR TWO IN-SEASON TOURNAMENTS:  The 2011-12 EMU men's basketball team will have two in-season tournaments during the regular season.
The Eagles will be part of the Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State University in November.  Eastern opens that invitational at Texas Southern, Nov. 15, will host Arkansas-Little Rock on Nov. 18, play at IUPUI, Nov. 20, before closing out with a Nov. 27 noon home date against Michigan State.
In the other in-season tournament, the Eagles will fly to California, Dec. 29-30, 2011, to play in the Cable Car Classic hosted by Santa Clara University.  Eastern is scheduled to play host Santa Clara, Dec. 29, and will then meet either Air Force or Wagner in the winner's or loser's bracket, Dec. 30.
