Men's Basketball Picked Sixth in MAC West

Western Michigan picked first in West and Kent State is top pick in East
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team was picked to finish sixth in the West Division in the 2011-12 Mid-American Conference preseason poll by the voting members of the MAC NewsMedia Association. The announcement was made in Cleveland today, Nov. 2.
The poll was announced prior to the league's preseason media teleconference and was determined by a 24-member MAC News Media Panel. That panel also selected the preseason All-MAC teams and the Eagles did not have a representative on any of those squads.
First-year EMU Head Coach Rob Murphy's team received 38 total points. Western Michigan was the choice to win the West Division crown with 128 points followed by Ball State (111), Central Michigan (92), Toledo (76), Northern Illinois (59) and EMU (38).
Western received 14 first-place votes with Ball State garnering nine and Central one. Ball State received three votes to capture the FirstEnergy MAC Tournament title while WMU had two and CMU 1.
Kent State was the overwhelming favorite to not only win the East Division, with 132 points and 16 first-place votes, but also had 12 votes to win the tournament championship. Akron was second in the East balloting with 104 points followed by Ohio (94), Miami (80), Buffalo (62) and Bowling Green (32). In addition to Kent's 12 votes to win the post-season crown, Akron had six.
