EMU BACK HOME FOR AKRON TILT: The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will stay in Mid-American Conference cross-divisional play when it host the University of Akron Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, in the Convocation Center.

EMU VS. AKRON: EMU and Akron are all tied at 18-all in the series. The two split last year, with EMU taking a 62-59 victory, Feb. 1, 2010, in Akron and the Zips coming back to break the Eagles' hearts in a 97-89 double-overtime win, March 11, 2010, at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio in a Mid-American Conference Tournament quarterfinal game.

FAMILIAR LOOKING BENCH: When Eastern plays host to Akron Wednesday, Feb. 2, there will be two familiar faces on the Zips' bench. Akron Head Coach Keith Dambrot was an EMU assistant coach for three years, from 1986-89. Akron Assistant Coach Charles Thomas is a twin brother of current EMU Assistant Coach Carl Thomas. The Thomas twins played for EMU from 1988-91.

STRONG STAT LINE: Senior forward Jay Higgins (Fayetteville, N.C.-IMG Academy-Hillsborough C.C.) turned in a strong offensive line in Saturday's, Jan. 29, loss at Bowling Green. Higgins scored a season-best 15 points while adding four rebounds, six assists and one steal. He also made 5-of-7 field-goal attempts and 4-of-6 three-point shots.

STAYING IN THE EAST: The Eagles are still searching for their first win against a cross-divisonal team this year. The EMU schedule is set up for the first five games to be played against West Division teams, the next six against East Division foes, and the final five back in the West. EMu has dropped the first two cross-divisional games on the road, falling at Ohio, Jan. 26, and at Bowling Green, Jan. 29. Akron is scheduled to come to Ypsilanti for a game Wednesday, Feb. 2, with Miami here in the Convocation Center, Feb. 5. EMU then heads to Kent, Feb. 9, and the Eagles close out East Division match ups by hosting Buffalo, Feb. 12.

BLOCK PARTY: Sophomore Jamell Harris (Euclid, Ohio-Euclid) has recorded 47 bloocked shots this season, the seventh-best single-season effort in school history. Harris has played in 50 career games, earning 11 starts. His 69 career blocks ties him with Calvin Warner (1998-2000) for the seventh spot in EMU history.
