Tennis drops road match agains the University of Illinois-Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team was unable to stay hot in the windy city, falling 6-1 to the Flames of University of Illinois-Chicago, Friday, Jan. 21, in Illinois.

The Eagles played tight matches throughout the doubles portion, losing narrowly in the first and third doubles match, 9-8, before slipping in the second match, 8-3. Celine Donnet and Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr rebounded to win the third doubles match, 9-7, but the point was already decided with UIC winning the first two matches.

The Flames heat spread into singles competition as EMU was only able to score one point, with Miriam Westerink defeating UIC's Teona Tsertsvadze 6-4, 6-2.

"We just didn't get the all-around performance we needed today to beat UIC," said Head Coach Ryan Ray. "They have a strong team. They took advantage of the close doubles decision to start the day and we didn't put out our best performance needed to get the victory. We will look to improve against DePaul tomorrow."

The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow, also in Chicago, as the team battles depaul at 1 p.m.
