YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- A cold shooting night was too much to overcome for the Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team in a 60-51 loss to Mid-American Conference West Division leader Ball State University here Wednesday night, Jan. 19, 2011, in the Convocation Center.

The visiting Cardinals came into the game with a perfect 3-0 league mark and made it 4-0 and 12-4 overall while shooting 48.8 percent the field on 21-of-43 attempts while holding the Eagles to just 31.7 percent from the field on 19-of-60 shots. Ball State also won the board battle, 41-32.

The Eagles, 4-13 overall and 1-3 in MAC action, were led by senior forward Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) with 26 points and six rebounds.

Ball State was led by center Jerrod Jones with 15 points while Randy Davis added 11 points and Jauwon Scaife added 10. Malik Perry hauled down 10 rebounds.

Bowdry opened the game with a three-point field goal from the top of the circle and the two teams traded buckets over the first 13 minutes of the game before the Cardinals took a 19-17 lead at the 6:55 mark on a layup by Chris Bond.

The visitors would increase that lead to six, 23-17, with 4:15 left and would hold that advantage into halftime, leading 27-21,

Bowdry closed out the first half with 13 points while Ball State was paced by Chris Bond with six. Ball State would close out the first half by shooting 50 percent from the field, hitting 11-of-22 shots while EMU could manage just 25.8 percent, making just 8-of-31 attempts.

Bowdry opened the second half with a hook shot, but the Cardinals answered quickly, building their lead to nine, 33-24, on two straight triples by Scaife.

The Eagles would cut the lead to seven points several times over the next several minutes, but the Cardinals would withstand each challenge, eventually boosting their lead to double digits, 49-38, on two free throws by Randy Davis with 5:26 remaining.

Eastern's pressing defense helped the Eagles pull within six, 53-47, on a layup by Quintin Dailey (Las Vegas, Nev.-Bishop Gorman-Sheridan C.C.) with 2:19 left.

Adrian Burton (Detroit, Mich.-Cooley-Kankakee C.C.) would then make the first of two free throw attempts just 13 seconds later to pull the Eagles within five, 53-48, but the Eagles would get no closer in the loss.

The Eagles are back in MAC West Division action Sunday, Jan. 23, when they host Central Michigan University in a 2 p.m. game in the Convocation Center.
