EMU earns the No. 7 overall seed in the MAC Tournament

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped its regular season finale Saturday afternoon, May 22, as the Central Michigan University Chippewas handed the Eagles a 10-2 loss at Theunissen Stadium.
EMU drops to 25-30 overall and finishes 13-14 in Mid-American Conference play for the second year in a row. CMU improves to 33-20 and captures the MAC overall title and the No. 1 overall seed in the 2010 MAC Tournament with a 20-7 mark in league play.
The Eagles earn the No. 7 seed in the MAC Tournament and will take on the MAC East champions from Kent State University, who earned the No. 2 overall seed. It marks the second year in a row EMU has earned the No. 7 seed in the MAC Tournament.
Junior Matt Skirving (Midland, Mich.-H.H. Dow) led the Eagles at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance.
EMU could not overcome a five-run bottom of the second inning by the Chips, who received a two-run double by catcher Dale Cornstubble to put the finishing touches on the inning. CMU tallied three more runs an inning later to take a commanding 9-1 advantage.
Freshman Steve Weber (North Royalton, Ohio-North Royalton) took the loss on the mound for the Eagles, putting his record at 2-5 this season. Weber went one and two-thirds, giving up six runs on three hits and four walks.
CMU's Zach Cooper went eight innings on the mound to earn the win for the Chippewas.
