YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Nine different pitchers and an efficient offensive attack helped the Eastern Michigan University baseball team register a 17-1 victory over the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies Wednesday night, May 12, at Oestrike Stadium.

EMU scored all 17 runs in three different innings in the win, tallying six in the third, three in the fourth, and eight in the eighth. It marks the second straight game the Eagles have scored eight runs in a single inning.

The Eagles improve to 25-24 overall with the win and 2-0 versus their instate rivals this season, while Oakland falls to 17-29 with the loss.

Senior Todd Graves (St. Marys, Ohio-St. Marys Memorial) belted his second home run of the season in the win, as his two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth helped EMU extend its lead. Graves finished the game 1-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI.

Senior John Carrier (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Detroit Catholic Central) had an impressive day at the plate, as he finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Sophomore Brent Ohrman (Adrian, Mich.-Adrian) extended his team-best hitting streak to eight games after going 3-for-5 at the dish with two runs scored and three RBI, while senior Andrew Marshall (Mason, Mich.-Mason) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Junior Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI in the victory.

After Oakland took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, the Eagles answered with a six-spot in the bottom of the third to claim a five-run edge, as a two-run double by Ohrman and a two-run single by Marshall gave EMU momentum. The Eagles tallied three more runs an inning later to take a 9-1 advantage.

The EMU pitching staff held the Golden Grizzlies in check from there, holding OU scoreless for the remainder of the contest to seal the win.

The Eagles are back in action this weekend, May 14-16, for their final home series of the 2010 season when the University of Toledo Rockets come to Oestrike Stadium for a key Mid-American Conference West Division series.
