Ken Delgado Named Assistant Football Coach

Will serve as the defensive line coach

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Football Coach Ron English has announced that Ken Delgado will join the football staff as an assistant coach. Delgado will serve as the defensive line coach.

Delgado comes to EMU after spending the past two seasons as the defensive line coach at the University of Louisville.

The 48-year-old Delgado began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant on the San Jose State staff in 1986-87. After those two seasons he became a full-time defensive line coach at San Jose State from 1988 through the 1992 season.

He left San Jose to become the defensive line coach at the University of Utah for the 1993 season before moving on to San Diego State as an assistant coach in charge of the defensive line from 1994-99 and was promoted to defensive coordinator for the 2000 and 2001 seasons.

The next stop for Delgado was the Unversity of California-Berkley were he was an assisant coach in charge of the defensive line for six seasons, from 2002 through the 2007 season. From there he spent the two seasons at Louisville.

During his coaching career, Delgado has been part of 10 post-season bowl games. San Jose State played in two California Bowls while he served as an intern, in 1986 and 1987, and the Spartans also played in the California Bowl in 1990.

While an assistant at San Diego State the team played in the 1998 Las Vegas Bowl. During his tenure at California, the Golden Bears participated in five bowl games, the Holiday Bowl in 2004 and 2006, the Insight Bowl in 2003, the Las Vegas Bowl in 2005 and the Armed Forces Bowl in 2007.

Delgado has a connection with the EMU football program. In 1987 he was a graduate assistant football coach at San Jose State and saw the Spartans lose to Eastern Michigan, 30-27, in the California Bowl.

Delgado and his wife, Beverly, have two children, Virginia (18) and David (16).
