Hail and freezing weather made for a tough day on the water for the Eagles
BUFFALO, N.Y. (EMUEagles.com) - It was cold morning on the waters of Buffalo, N.Y. as the temperature barely cracked 40 degrees and precipitation in the form of hail and rain came crashing down as the Eastern Michigan University women's rowing team was swept by the University at Buffalo at the Harvey Cup.
High winds also played a factor, as gusts routinesly swept in at 20 miles per hour to make for less than ideal circumstances.
The closest two races of the day for EMU came in the Varsity Eight, the race for the Harvey Cup, and the Novice Four. Despite putting up a fight with the four-time defending Harvey Cup Champion Bulls, the Eagles fell short by just over 19 seconds (7:40.1 finish by the Bulls, 7:59.5 finish by the Eagles) as UB claimed its fifth straight Harvey Cup.
In the Novice Four, the Eagles also fell short by just seconds. While UB crossed the line in 9:26, EMU pulled in 13 seconds behind at 9:39.
The Eagles will have a week of rest before returning to competition at the Indianapolis Invitational Saturday, April 24.
