Tennis Closes California Road Trip with 4-3 Win Over Lions

Team has strong outing despite nagging injuries
The Eagles picked up what turned out to be the deciding point in doubles competition as Xu Chang and Marcela Rivero beat Audrey Bulkley and Estelle Laporte, 8-6, and Miriam Westerink and Karina Ahuja defeated Jasmin Heckel and Bliss Nixon, 8-3.
Westerink, playing singles in the one position due to an injury to Julie Breuss, defeated Heckel 6-3, 6-2. Xu took the second match over the Lions' Jane Pringle, 6-4, 7-5, but LMU would pull even, winning the next three matches to tie the score at 3-3.
Freshman Celine Donnet picked up the win in the six position over Audrey Bulkley, 6-4, 6-4, to secure the win for EMU.
“It's nice to get a win at the end of this week,” said EMU Head Coach Ryan Ray. “The two week break we having coming up couldn't arrive at a better time. “Hopefully we can get our team back to full strength for the stretch run. We still have a lot to improve upon, but a road win is always a good win.”
The Eagles will return home and take a much-needed two weeks off before returning to action against Duquesne, March 20, at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti, Mich.
