Deon Maddox Named EMU Assistant Football Coach

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Football Coach Ron English announced today, that Deon Maddox will join the football staff as an assistant coach. Maddox will serve as the wide receivers coach.
Maddox joins the EMU football staff after serving as an administrator at Armwood (Fla.) High School in Tampa, Fla. from 2006-09, the first four years as an assistant principal. He also co-founded the Receiver's Edge Skills Academy to teach young football players wide receiver skills, a position he held for the past two years.
Prior to working at Armwood, Maddox was the offensive coordinator on the football team at Middleton High School in Tampa from 2002-2006.
The 36-year-old Maddox (2-18-74) earned his bachelor's degree (1995) and his MBA (2000) from Syracuse University where he was a standout wide receiver for the Orange. He was named the Liberty Bowl Scholar-Athlete in 1996.
After finishing his collegiate career, Maddox joined the Detroit Lions football squad as a free agent in 1997 before being released in 1998. He went on to be a 1999 draft choice of the Scottish Claymores in NFL Europe.
A native of Tampa, Fla., Maddox graduated from Jefferson High School in 1992 after earning third-team All-State honors in football. He was also a letterwinner in baseball and basketball.
Maddox and his wife, Samantha (Alston) have two children, daughter Samyah (13) and son Machiah (5).
