OMAHA, Neb. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University senior wrestler Sean Clair (Turtlecreek, Pa.-Plum) earned a bid to day two of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships Thursday, March 18. Clair went 1-1 on the day while junior David Wade (Beavercreek, Ohio-Beavercreek) went 0-2 and was eliminated from contention.
Clair suffered an opening round setback to No. 1 ranked Jason Ness from the University of Minnesota at 133 lbs. Ness pinned Clair at the 2:12 mark of the match. Then in the wrestleback round, Clair bounced back to defeat Alex Radsky of Davidson College, 4-1.
At heavyweight, Wade was pinned in the first round by Kurt Klimek of California State University Fullerton at the 6:13 mark. Wade then lost a tough 1-0 decision to Penn State University's Cameron Wade in the wrestleback round.
After day one, the University of Iowa leads in team scoring with 34.5 points.
The event will continue Friday, March 19, with quarterfinal action beginning at 10:30 a.m. The event will run through Saturday, March 20.
