BATTLE FOR THE TITLE DURING “CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK”: When Eastern Michigan University hosts Central Michigan University Thursday, March 4, in the Mid-American Conference regular-season finale it will be for at least a share of the West Division championship. EMU, CMU and Ball State enter the final game of the regular season with identical 8-7 records. Ball State University plays at Western Michigan University Thursday and if BSU wins that contest it will share the West Division title with the winner of the EMU-CMU game. If Ball State loses that encounter, the EMU-CMU winner will be the outright champion. If Ball State and EMU both win they would share the division crown, but the Eagles would get the No. 2 seed after beating the Cardinals in both matchups this season. The MAC West Division champion will receive the second seed in the upcoming FirstEnergy MAC Tournament and will play the winner of the 7-10 matchup from the first round on campus sites to play in the quarterfinal round, Thursday, March 11, at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
The EMU women's basketball team and the men's swimming and diving team are both part of “Championship Week” with home events, March 2-7.
CHECKING THE SERIES WITH CMU: The Eagles and Chippewas will be meeting for the 181st time when they square off Thusday, March 4. CMU holds a 94-86 edge in the series.
