EMU Hosts MAC East Division Leader Kent State in Thursday Tilt

STRONG START: EMU's 11-10 record this season is the best start since the 1999-2000 squad went 12-9 in its first 21 games.
CHECKING THE SERIES WITH KENT STATE: The Eagles and Golden Flashes will be meeting for the 66th time in a series that began in the 1949-50 season. Kent State leads the series, 35-30. Kent has won 13 straight games in the series with the last EMU win a 79-74 decision, Feb. 7, 1998.
Head Coach Charles E. Ramsey's Eagles enter Thursday's, Feb. 4, game with an 11-10 overall record and a 3-5 MAC mark after capturing a 62-59 road win over East Division co-leader Akron Monday, Feb. 1.
Head Coach Geno Ford's Kent State team enters Thursday's game with a 15-7 overall record and an East Division leading 6-2 mark. The Golden Flashes recorded an easy 76-46 win over a visiting Northern Illinois squad Monday, Feb. 1.
EAGLES IN EAST DIVISION PLAY: After opening the Mid-American Conference season with five straight West Division opponents, the Eagles are now three games into a six-game slate against cross-divisional rivals. EMU opened the foray into East territory with a 64-61 home loss to Bowling Green, Jan. 27, followed by a 61-51 setback at Miami, Jan. 30. The Eagles then came up with a thrilling, 62-59, win on the road at East co-leader Akron's Rhodes Arena, Feb. 1. Now the Eagle's host Kent State, Feb. 4, and Ohio, Feb. 6. EMU closes out the East Division regular-season schedule, Feb. 10, at Buffalo.
BRACKET BUSTER TRIP TO DETROIT: EMU has drawn the University of Detroit for its Bracket Buster game, Feb. 20. The Eagles will travel to Detroit to meet the Titans in a 3:35 p.m. tilt. U-D holds a 59-18 advantage in the series and the Titans won a 62-47 decision in the last outing, Nov. 22, 2008. Detroit has won the last seven straight with the last EMU win an 82-80 home victory, Dec. 30, 1999.
MEDLOCK, DOBBINS, BOWDRY CLIMB EMU CAREER LADDERS: The EMU trio of Carlos Medlock (Detroit, Mich.-Murray Wright), Justin Dobbins (Cleveland, Ohio-Glenville), and Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) are all making major moves up the EMU career rankings in scoring, rebounding, three-point shooting, assists and free-throw shooting. Medlock is now 14th in career scoring with 1,341, just the 15th player in school history to reach 1,300 points. Bowdry is 23rd at 1,074 and Dobbins is 34th with 947. Bowdry has 608 career rebounds for 13th and is just the 13th player in school history to reach the 600-rebound mark. Dobbins is 26th in rebounding with 466 and Medlock is 66th at 279. Medlock is fifth in three-point shooting with 180 career triples, just one behind Earl Boykins (1995-98). Medlock is eighth in career assists at 351 and is eighth in free throws made with 381.
TOUGH IN THE SECOND HALF: The Eagles have put two outstanding second-half efforts in back-to-back games. At Miami, Jan. 30, Eastern trailed, 31-14, at intermission and stormed out of the lockerroom to out-score the RedHawks, 37-30, only to fall by a 61-51 count. Monday, Feb. 1, at Akron, Eastern was down by one, 32-31, at the half and came out and out-scored the home squad, 31-27, to gain the 62-59 victory.
17th DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR BOWDRY: Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) turned in the 17th double-double of his career and the 10th this season with 13 points and 12 rebounds in a 77-59 loss at Northern Illinois Saturday, Jan. 16.
