Eagles Vault Into Third Place After Day Two of MAC Championships

EMU had good showings in the 500 free and one meter dive to improve the team's score after seven events

OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team currently sit in third place behind Ohio and leader Toledo following the second day of events at the 2010 MAC Championships hosted by Miami University at the Nixon Aquatic Center Thursday, Feb. 25.

For the Eagles, one of their strong suits this season has been the distance free events and they didn't disappoint Thursday evening when it came to the 500-yard freestyle. In the event, the Green and White put two swimmers in the top-five as Samantha Partridge captured a third  place medal and Briana Emig took fifth. Partridge finished with a time of 4:48.27, shattering her previous season-best by more than 10 seconds, while Emig also set a season-best time of 4:50.29. Jacy Dyer of Toledo took the win with a time of 4:44.23, breaking her own meet record which was set last season.

Leeza Moser placed in the 200 IM, coming in eighth place with a time of 2:05.46. Carly Harter of Toledo placed first with a time of 2:01.19. In the 50 free, Sarah Kowalski took home a seventh place finish, touching the wall in 23.17. Annie Donovan of Ohio won the event with a time of 22.69.

In the final event of the evening, the one meter dive, the Eagles placed three in the top-five. Danielle Hulvey entered the finals with the third-highest seed score and improved upon that to take a second place medal in the meet with a score of 289.40. Christina Nunez-Wood took fourth place with a score of 265.55 with teammate Leslie Vizurraga close behind with a score of 260.65, good for fifth place.

Earlier in the meet, the 200 free relay team of Stephanie Cholyk, Partridge, Sarah Maraskine, and Lauren Kalinosky finished seventh with a time of 1:34.53 behind event winner Ohio which finished with a meet record time of 1:30.47.

Friday's action will include prelims in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 free, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke in the first session. The second session will feature the finals in those five events as well as the three meter diving finals and 400 medley relay finals.
