EMU places second for the eighth straight season

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUeagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team finished in second at the EMU Invitational for the eighth straight season at the Michael H. Jones Natatorium Saturday evening, Dec. 4.
The University of Michigan took the 12-team invitational with a score of 865, followed by the Eagles (694.5), Ball State (649.5), Bowling Green (604), Ashland (335), Michigan State (293), Toledo (208), Finday (64), Oakland (59), IUPUI (57), Wayen State (28), and Waterloo (6). It was Michigan's eighth straight EMU Invite title.
Eastern Michigan's Briana Emig set a meet record in her 4:49.75 second place efforts in the 500 freestyle, as well as a 4:24.53 time en route to a second place finish in the 400 IM in 4:24.53. Emig joined teammates Sarah Maraskine, Sarah Kowalski, and Helena Tolic in a third place performance in the 800 freestyle relay.
Kowalski was the lone victor in day-two of the invitational, taking first place in the 200 free to secure a time of 1:51.60. She also was third to touch the wall at 23.60 in the 50 freestyle.
Jacquelyn Swartz added to the EMU top-three finishes on the evening after coming in third place in the 400 IM with a time of 4:27.03, and rounded out the evening with her second place time of 2:03.95 in the 200 IM.
On the boards, Lesley Vizurraga led the Eagles with her third place finish in the one-meter event, scoring 260.45 points. She was followed by teammate Kelly Hendricks who took fourth place after earning 246.60 points for EMU.
The Eagles will have off until Jan. 2, 2011 when they travel to Miami, Fla. for the FIU Invitational.
