EAGLES HIT THE ROAD FOR HARRISONBURG, Va.: The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will stay on the road for the second week in a row, with a Saturday, Nov. 27, date with the James Madison University Dukes in Harrisonburg, Va. Game time at the JMU Convocation Center is 7 p.m.
EMU is fresh off a 71-51 loss at Canisius, Nov. 20, in Buffalo, N.Y. The Dukes are currently 2-1 with a game scheduled at home, Nov. 23, against Presbyterian.
EMU VS. JAMES MADISON: EMU and James Madison will be meeting for the second time in the series. The two hooked up last year, Dec. 12, 2009, in the EMU Convocation Center and the Eagles recorded a 75-64 victory. Senior point guard Carlos Medlock (Detroit, Mich.-Murray Wright) and redshirt junior Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) each scored 20 points to lead Eastern Michigan University to a 75-64 non-conference win over a visiting James Madison University. Julius Wells led JMU with 19 points and 11 rebounds and Denzel Bowles added 14 points.
THOMPSON SEES FIRST ACTION: After defeating Madonna, 79-70, Nov. 17, EMU Head Coach Charles E. Ramsey received some good news with the NCAA ruling that sophomore Derek Thompson (Detroit, Mich.-Melvindale-Southeast Missouri State University) would be eligible to play in the Eagles' next game, Nov. 20, at Canisius. A 6-foot-3 guard from Detroit, Mich., Thompson had been awaiting a hardship waiver for the last few weeks while practicing with the Eagles.
The 6-foot-3 Thompson, who played his freshman year, the 2009-10 season, at Southeast Missouri State University, saw 16 minutes of action for the Eagles last weekend, Nov. 20, at Canisius and made one three-point shot for three points and had one rebound.
During the 2009-10 season, Thompson played in 29 games, starting four times, for the SEMO RedHawks. He was fifth on the team in scoring, at 8.4 points per game, and was second in three pointers made with 47. When EMU squared off against SEMO, Nov. 24, 2009 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Thompson scored 15 points off the bench.
CLIMBING UP THE RECORD BOOK: EMU senior forward Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) enters his senior season in the top 20 in both career scoring and rebounding. After his first three games of the 2010-11 season Bowdry has now scored 1,297 career points to rank 16th and his 746 rebounds is good for the 8th spot.
BOWDRY WINS MAC AWARD AFTER CAREER-BEST EFFORT: EMU senior forward Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor, Mich.-Truman) turned in a career-best performance Friday, Nov. 12, at Michigan State and he earned the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week Award for his efforts. Bowdry scored a career-high 32 points, connected on a career-best five three-point field goals and tied his career-high with 15 rebounds against the No. 2 ranked team in the nation. His 32-point, 15-rebound double-double against MSU was the 24th of his career.
HARRIS WORKS BOTH ENDS OF THE COURT: Sophomore Jamell Harris (Euclid, Ohio-Euclid) worked both ends of the court to produce big numbers in EMU's 2010-11 home opener against Madonna University, Nov. 17. Harris turned in the first double-double of his career with 15 points and 13 rebounds. The 6-foot-9 Harris also set a Convocation Center record for single-game blocks with seven, breaking the mark of six held by three opposing players, Marshall's LaVar Carter (11-30-04), IPFW's Davis Simon (2-6-05) and Northern Illinois player James Hughes (10-9-07). The seven blocks also ties the EMU record for the second-most single-game blocks with Brian Nolan, versus Stetson(12-9-89) and two by Theron Wilson, vs. Toledo (2-13-93) and Kent State (1-20-93).
NEWCOMERS GET PLAYING TIME: Four EMU players saw their first-ever action for the Eagles in the 2010-11 season opener in East Lansing Friday, Nov. 12, against the No. 2 ranked Michigan State University Spartans. Junior Darrell Lampley (Linden, N.J.-Linden-Lakeland C.C.) started at point guard and, despite early foul trouble, managed to score eight points with two assists in 23 minutes of action. Junior point guard Adrian Burton (Detroit, Mich.-Cooley-Kankakee C.C.) came off the bench to score four points with three rebounds and one assist in 13 minutes. Junior forward Kenny Stewart (Williamsport, Pa.-Notre Dame Prep-Weatherford C.C.) did not score and had one rebound in five minutes of play and redshirt freshman J.R. Sims (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Snider) scored two points with two rebounds in 10 minutes.
Transfer Derek Thompson (Detroit, Mich.-Melvindale-Southeast Missouri State University) played his first game for the Eagles at Canisius, and scored three points in 16 minutes of action.

Eastern is set to continue on its road swing, this time heading west to Moscow, Idaho to participate in the Basketball Travelers Tournament, Dec. 3-5, hosted by the University of Idaho.
