Rowers Finish Ninth, 15th at Occoquan Chase

Van Order also put her oars to the water for the 1x race, finishing third
LORTON, Va. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's rowing team opened its fall regatta schedule today, Oct. 17, at the Occoquan Chase in Lorton, VA. The rowers set two boats assail in the Open Women's 8+, finishing ninth and 15th among 18 boats.
In the race, the Eagles' ninth place boat posted a time of 17:10.3, compared to the winning boat of George Mason University crossing the finish line in a time of 16:15.66, while the 15th place boat crossed in 18:49.04 after being docked 30 seconds for an interference penalty.
Two Eastern Michigan assistant rowing coaches also competed as Stacey Van Order took to the water in the Open Women's 1x, and Kemp Savage was the lone competitor in the Open Men's 2x. Van Order finished in a time of 22:26.56, just three minutes behind the winning boat, while Savage posted a time of 17:37.
The Eagles will put their boats back in the water for fall competition Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 6-7, when they compete in the Head of the Hooch Regatta in Roswell, Ga.
