Purdue proves to be too much forthe young Eagles
West Lafayette, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team was unable to overpower the Big 10 challenge of Purdue University as the Eagles were downed by the Boilermakers, 7-0,d Friday, Jan. 22, in West Lafayette, Ind.
Despite the losses, Eastern fared well in many of its matches against the Boilermakers. Sophomore Miriam Westerink gave Purdue's Bhavani Tirumurti all she could handle, forcing a decisive third set
First-year netter Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr also had a good match as she was barely edged out, 6-4, 6-3, in straight sets.
"It was disappointing to lose this match 7-0," said Eagles Head Coach Ryan Ray. "We competed pretty well at 4 out of 6 singles positions tonight and you hate to lose all of those matches. Purdue really prevailed late in the sets, and we need to get better at this. Our effort was pretty solid tonight, but we just need to steadily improve as we move forward."
The Eagles have very little time to lick their wounds as the team will be abck in action Sunday, Jan. 22, in Iowa City Big 10 powerhouse Iowa. The match will begin at 10 a.m.
