EMU MEN'S BASKETBALL ALUMNI DAY SET FOR SATURDAY, JAN. 23: One of the greatest eras in Eastern Michigan University men's basketball history will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 23, when the current EMU men's team hosts Ball State University Men's Basketball Alumni Day game.
This year's Men's Basketball Alumni Day will be dedicated to the Jim Dutcher Coaching Years from 1966-72. All EMU men's basketball alumni will be guests of the University, with the players from the 1966-72 squads invited as the main honorees for the event. Dutcher, who will be in attendance at the event to greet the alumni, led the then-Hurons to a 127-49 record in the six years from 1966-67 through the 1971-72 season. Eastern qualified for four consecutive National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national tournament appearances (from 1967-68 through 1970-71) and saw that 1970-71 squad make it to the NAIA final game before finishing runner-up to national champion Kentucky State. Dutcher's 1971-72 team made it to the Final Four of the NCAA-College Division national tournament.
