Eagles Fly High at 'Mike Lints' Open

ALLENDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team displayed dominance in every facet of the sport as it dominated both track and field events at the 'Mike Lints' Open in Allendale, Mich., Jan. 15, 2010.

The Eagles won nine of the 16 events, and finished one and two in seven of those nine. The freshman phenom Ashlee Abraham (Southfield, Mich.-Renaissance) picked up where she left off last week in the 60-meter hurdle, picking up her second career win in just her second collegiate race with a time of 7.63. Her teammate ReJeana Marigna (Beverly, N.J.- Burlington County Institute of Technology) would finish just .01 seconds behind for the second place finish. Three other Eagles rounded out the top-five.

Marigna and Abraham would also finish first and second in the 200-meter dash, this time with Marigna picking up the win and also becoming an NCAA Provisional qualifier with a mark of 24.81.

Shantavia Williams (Homestead, Fla.-South Dade) also set an NCAA Provisional qualifier mark with her 56.50 400-meter dash time. Other NCAA Provisional marks set by EMU were Asia Rawls (Waterford, Mich.-Mott) in the 600-meter run, Christina Farrow (Detroit, Mich.-Renaissance) in the 800-meter run, the 4x400-meter relay team, Jessica Novakowski (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Western) in the pole vault, Rosie White (New Albany, Ohio-New Albany) and in the long jump.

In the field, Novakowski earned a second place finish with her NCAA qualifying pole vault jump of 12-03.50. Also, sophomore thrower Angela Scarber (Waterford, Mich.-Kettering) picked up third and fifth placed finishes in the shot put and weight throw, respectively, while her shot put toss of 43-00.25 was a season best.

In addition to the victories in the 60, 200, 400, 600 and 800-meter runs, EMU also notched wins in the mile, 4X400 relay, long jump and triple jump.

The non-scored meet featured competition from Grand Valley (the host school), Bethel (Ind.), Calvin, Davenport, Siena Heights, Alma, St. Joseph's, Spring Arbor and Valparaiso among others.

The Eagles will head down the road to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the Harvey-Simmons Invitational Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23.
