YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University's women's tennis team will head to the University of Michigan this weekend, Oct. 2-4, as a participant in the seven-team 2009 Wolverine Invitational.
After solid overall performances at the Gopher Invitational (Sept. 25-27) and the Bowling Green Invitational (Sept. 19-20), the Eagles will look to add to their preseason success with a strong showing at Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center.
The team will get a good look at fellow Mid-American Conference opponents Miami and Western Michigan, both of which will square off against the Eagles in April during season play. EMU will also see Big Ten's Purdue University this weekend. The Boilermakers will also meet Eastern in Indiana for a match on January 22. Marquette, Michigan and South Carolina round out the seven competing squads.
EAGLE TO WATCH:
Sophomore Marcela Rivero (Santa Cruz, Bolivia-Saint George) has already captured a preseason flight title at the BGSU Invite and had a second-place finish in her flight at the Gopher Invite. In her second year with the team, Rivero is emerging as one of the bright spots on the young Eagle's roster.
