TOWSON, Md. – Eastern Michigan University senior outfielder Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) has been named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America baseball third team, the committee announced today, May 26. Rhoad is EMU's first Academic All-American in baseball since Jeff Hehr earned the honor in 2007.
Rhoad, a 3.91 GPA in supply chain management, finished his bachelor's degree in business in three years at EMU and recently just completed his Master of Business Administration with a focus in supply chain management. Rhoad was a Dean's List mainstay since arriving on campus and was a Merlanti Ethics Scholar and was named Academic All-Mid-American Conference in 2007.
The senior captain started all 60 games for the Eagles this past season, and was recently named to the Mid-American Conference All-Tournament team after leading the tournament in home runs with four. Rhoad tallied 32 stolen bases this season, the most in a single season in EMU baseball history. In four years, Rhoad notched 66 stolen bases, good for third all-time in school history. Rhoad finished the season batting a team-best .349, while leading the team in runs (69) and hits (81). His 158 career runs scored rank fourth all-time in EMU baseball history, while his 648 career at-bats rank 10th on the all-time list.
