CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – Behind three home runs by senior Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) and a solid outing by freshman pitcher Kendall Lewis (Huntsville, Ohio-Indian Lake), the Eastern Michigan University baseball team held off elimination in the 2009 Mid-American Conference Baseball Tournament, as the Eagles knocked off No. 3 Ohio University, 13-4, Friday afternoon, May 22, at V.A. After a solid outing at Ohio State University, May 12, freshman hurler Kendall Lewis (Huntsville, Ohio-Indian Lake) followed it up with another impressive start this afternoon, as Lewis went seven and one-thirds innings, giving up just four runs (three earned) on nine hits to earn the win and move his record to 5-4 this year.

Junior Aaron Crooks (Toledo, Ohio-Ottawa Hills) helped extend EMU's lead an inning later, as his RBI single through the right side plated sophomore Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley) to make it a 2-0 game. An RBI single by Gerbus and Rhoad's three-run bomb later in the game put the Eagles ahead, 6-0, and forced Ohio head coach Joe Carbone to pull Johnston early in the contest.
Crooks and Leonard helped further extend EMU's lead later in the game, as a solo homer over the right field wall by Crooks in the fourth and a three-run job by Leonard in the fifth lifted the Eagles to a commanding 10-0 advantage.
The Bobcats pulled closer in the top of the eighth, as a two-run blast over the right field by Krauss and a two-run double by Chris Klimko made it an 11-4 game.
In the bottom half of the inning, Rhoad belted his third homer of the game, while junior Todd Graves (St. Mary's, Ohio-St. Mary's Memorial) blasted a solo shot over the scoreboard to extend the Eagles' lead to 13-4.
