YPSILANTI
, Mich.Freshman Jordan Glover (Toronto, Ontario-Ontario Schools) tallied a career-best nine strikeouts over eight innings of work, leading the Eastern Michigan University baseball team to a 5-0 victory over Central Michigan University Friday afternoon, May 15, in a Mid-American Conference West Division tilt at Oestrike Stadium. The victory clinches the Eagles' spot in the 2009 MAC Tournament next week, May 20-23, in Chillicothe, Ohio.

The Eagles have won five of their last six games and improve to 23-32 (13-13 MAC) with the win, while CMU drops to 26-28 (11-15 MAC) with the loss.

Glover improves to 3-4 with the victory and pitches EMU's first shutout since the 2007 season. The true freshman gave up just three hits and walked two in the victory, and his nine strikeouts are the second most by an EMU pitcher this season.

Sophomore Matt Skirving (Midland, Mich.-H.H. Dow) belted his 16th home run of the season in the victory, as his three-run blast in the bottom of the eight all but sealed the win for the Eagles. Skirving finished 1-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI in the win.

Junior Jim Gulliver (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) put the Eagles on the board in the bottom of the third, as his RBI single through the right side plated senior Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) to make it a 1-0 game. Gulliver finished 2-for-3 on the day with one run scored and one RBI.

Junior Andrew Marshall (Mason, Mich.-Mason) extended EMU's lead an inning later, as he belted a solo homer over the wall in left-center field through the heavy winds to make it a 2-0 game. Marshall has hit a team-best 17 home runs this season.

Skirving gave the Eagles a five-run lead in the bottom of the eighth, as his towering three-run bomb over the wall in center field wall to score Rhoad and Gulliver to give EMU a 5-0 advantage.

Senior Kevin Wammes (Fremont, Ohio-St. Joseph) came into the game in the ninth to seal the victory for the Eagles in game two.

The Eagles look to complete the sweep tomorrow when they play their regular finale against CMU at 1:05 p.m. It marks the final home contest for seniors Kyle Rhoad, Kevin Wammes, Sean Hoffman (Midland, Mich.-Midland), Aaron Powell (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston), and Bobby Henderson (Milford, Mich.-Detroit Catholic Central).
