YPSILANTI, Mich. – In an effort to provide cutting-edge coverage, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will provide a live video stream of the 2009 Mid-American Conference Wrestling Championship which is being hosted at the Convocation Center, March 7-8. The free Internet-only broadcast will be available exclusively on EMUEagles.com. The production is a combined effort between the EMU Sports Information Office and Internet Consulting Services, Inc. The two-day broadcast will mark just the second time in EMU athletics history that a video broadcast of a live event has been made available via the department's website.
Saturday's webcast will begin at approximately 12:55 p.m. and cover both the first and semifinal rounds. Sunday's stream will begin at approximately 10:55 a.m. and cover the final and consolations rounds as well as the awards ceremony.
This year's tournament will feature 60 of the MAC's best grapplers who will battle for a conference title and a trip to the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo. Thanks to a brand new selection system, the NCAA has awarded the MAC 19 spots at the annual event, with several more pending.
Included in the teams vying for a MAC Championship are two nationally ranked squads, Central Michigan University and Kent State University. CMU enters the meet as the 10th ranked team while Kent is ranked 20th. KSU upset CMU in their only dual-meet match-up this year. Also, competing will be the University at Buffalo, Eastern Michigan University, Northern Illinois University and Ohio University.
