EMU rallied late in the game, but it wasn't enough to overcome LaTech's early offensive explosion.

Box Score.

RUSTON, La. -
The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped game one of a three-game series Friday night, March 6, at J.C. Love Field in Ruston, La., as the Eagles fell, 10-7, to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.

EMU drops to 3-7 with the loss, while LaTech improves to 5-3 with the victory.

Sophomore Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley) performed well for the Eagles, finishing 3-for-5 with three RBI. Leonard has tallied at least one hit in nine out of 10 games so far this season, and has reached base safely in EMU's last 16 games dating back to last season.

The Bulldogs put two on the board in the bottom of the second, as an RBI single up the middle by Nick Grunenwald scored Devon Gordey and Justin Dageford to give LaTech a 2-0 advantage. The Bulldogs tallied two more in the second and four more in the third and fourth to take an 8-0 lead.

The EMU offense generated some momentum in the top of the fifth, as an RBI double by senior Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) scored freshman Kyle Klein (Grand Rapids, Mich.-West Catholic) to put the Eagles on the board. An RBI ground out to second base later in the inning by Leonard scored Gulliver to make it an 8-2 game.

After LaTech's Graham Myers walked in a run with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth, Leonard put the Eagles within four runs, as his two-run double to the gap in left-center scored Gulliver and Crooks to make it a 10-6 game. An RBI ground out later in the inning by Aaron Powell (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) scored one more EMU run to make it a 10-7 game.

Senior Sean Hoffman (Midland, Mich.-Midland) took the loss for EMU, while LaTech's John Anderson claimed the victory.

The Eagles and Bulldogs are back in action again tomorrow at 3 p.m. Sophomore Jordan Goldschmidt (Ft. Loramie, Ohio-Ft. Loramie) will get the start on the mound for EMU, while freshman right-handed pitcher Jeb Stefan will start for the Bulldogs.
