Redshirt junior receives honor for second time

CLEVELAND, Ohio– Eastern Michigan University redshirt junior wrestler Chris Jenkins (Tecumseh, Mich.-Tecumseh) has been named to the 2009 Academic All-MAC Team, the Mid-American Conference Office announced Tuesday, March 24. This marks the second time in his career that Jenkins has achieved the honor, with the first time coming in 2007.

Jenkins, a criminal justice major with a 3.49 GPA, posted a 13-8 regular season record. A 3-2 mark at the MAC Championships at the Convocation Center, March 7-8, earned him third place in the 125 lb. weight class. He competed in 12-of-18 duals this season, splitting time at both 125 and 133.

To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered.

The six-member team was voted on by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives from among a list of student-athletes who have excelled in both athletics and academics.
