Gymnastics Set For MAC Championship

The Eagles head to Muncie, Ind. Saturday, March 21, for the 2009 MAC Gymnastics Championship.

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team will head to Muncie, Ind. Saturday, March 21, to compete in the 2009 Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championship at Ball State University. The Eagles are looking to top their second place finish from last season.
BEAMING WITH CONFIDENCE: Senior Maureen Moss carded a career-high mark on the balance beam last weekend against CMU, as her 9.825 was good for second place. Moss is currently ranked third in the MAC on the balance beam and 23rd in the region.
ALL-AROUND PERFORMER: Junior Erin Grigg has put up impressive marks all season long, and last weekend against CMU was no exception. Grigg carded a 9.825 on the vault, while also tying her career-high mark on the balance beam with a 9.800 mark. Grigg finished second overall in the competition with an all-around score of 39.025. She is currently ranked the fourth best all-around performer in the MAC (12th in the region). Grigg, a 3.97 GPA in exercise science, has also been named the MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week twice this season.
FIRST-YEAR SUCCESS: Freshman Stacie Wood has put up impressive marks in her first collegiate season. Wood tallied a career-high mark of 9.800 in the floor exercise at the Eagle Invitational, while her 9.700 on the balance beam at the Washington Invitational and her 9.625 on the bars against Seattle Pacific were also career-best marks.
LAST YEAR'S MAC CHAMPIONSHIP: The Eagles finished second at last year's MAC Championship with a team score of 193.800, finishing behind KSU's 195.675. Erin Grigg, Jolene Worley and Duyen Zu Vuong each notched a 9.800 on the vault to finish in a five-way tie for fourth place. Worley earned MAC Gymnast of the Year and MAC Senior Gymnast of the Year accolades last season.
