, Mich.The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped its ninth game in a row Wednesday afternoon, March 18, as the Michigan State University Spartans handed the Eagles a 14-5 loss at Oestrike Stadium.

 

Sophomore Tim Combs (Dayton, Ohio-Wayne) took the loss for EMU, while Tony Bucciferro picked up the win for MSU.

 

The loss puts EMU at 3-15 this season, while MSU improves to 3-14 with the win.

 

Seniors Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) and Aaron Powell (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) each tallied solo homers for EMU in the loss.

 

The Eagles made it a one-run game in the bottom of the third, as Rhoad belted a solo homer over the wall in center field to make it a 3-2 game.

 

MSU took a four-run lead in the top of the fifth, as Chris Roberts blasted a three-run homer over the right field wall to give the Spartans a 6-2 lead. MSU tacked on three more in the inning to go ahead, 9-2, all but sealing the victory for former EMU head coach Jake Boss Jr. and the Spartans. 

The two teams meet again next month, April 28-29, in East Lansing.

 

The Eagles begin conference play this weekend when they head to Kent, Ohio to take on the Golden Flashes of Kent State University, March 20-22. The last time the two teams met was last season in the MAC Tournament title game when EMU registered a 12-4 win over KSU to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional in Ann Arbor, Mich.
