KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Eastern Michigan University senior outfielder Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) has been named one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, announced Tuesday, March 17. Thirty NCAA baseball student-athletes who excel both on and off the diamond were tabbed as 2009 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, character, community, and competition.
Rhoad maintains a 3.91 GPA and has been a Dean's List mainstay since arriving on campus. He is a Merlanti Ethics Scholar and was named Academic All-Mid-American Conference in 2007. Rhoad graduated in three years with a bachelor of business administration and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration with a focus in supply chain management. The Beta Gamma Sigma member was named the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week on April 27, 2008.
On the field, Rhoad enters his final season as the starting center fielder and team captain. He is 12th all-time in EMU baseball history with 41 stolen bases and was voted by the Mid-American Conference coaches as the league's top base runner. So far this season, Rhoad has started all 17 games and has tallied seven stolen bases in seven attempts.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages those leaders to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact on their circle of influence.
Rhoad and the EMU baseball team are back in action this afternoon when they host Michigan State University at 3:05 p.m. at Oestrike Stadium.
